Hill Farmstead Brewery
What can you say, Rate Beer, the largest, most popular beer review and rating site has named them the ‘Best Brewery in the World’ five out of the last six years! And the year they didn’t win, they came in second!
Hill Farmstead Brewery is located in Greensboro, VT, on the site of the Hill family farm located in the North East Kingdom of VT. Shaun Hill is the owner and brew master. His philosophy is that beer is a perishable item, just like vegetables and should be produced and consumed locally, which is why it’s so hard to find! My understanding is that there is no intention of scaling the business and he will stay actively involved in brewing great beer. The only way to purchase is to go to the brewery. You can try it in restaurants and bars in Vermont.
They usually have up to 12 beers on draft which are available in either a 2 liter or 750 ml growler. Recently (Feb 2018) they have been offering a limited number of the draft beer in cans, typically 2 different beers. In the bottle room there is a variety of their Farm House Ales, Saison’ and other interesting offerings. For a complete list of beers currently available, visit the website: hillfarmstead.com
It’s about a 45 min drive from Stowe, a bit of a trek, but worth it. You will see beautiful Vermont scenery as we drive along the Lamoille River. Stopping at the brewery is great after a day of mountain biking at Kingdom Trails (some of the best in the country), but make sure you get there early, they close at 5. When the weather gets nice, the food trucks show up, people and dogs are spread out all over the lawn, Frisbee and Corn Hole games going on and there’ a general festival like atmosphere.
I take groups out when requested. They want to know that I’m coming, so please let me know in advance if you want to visit. We can break up the drive with stops at other breweries on the way there and back.
